The “Voyageur” in Canada’s Oilsands
CALGARY, Alberta, Canada - Suncor Energy Inc. operates an oil sands mining, bitumen extraction and bitumen upgrader facility, producing approximately 260,000 BPD of synthetic crude. The existing operations are located in the Athabasca Oil Sands region of northern Alberta near Fort McMurray.
Suncor plans to approximately double its oil sands-based synthetic crude production operations over the next 8 years. A new upgrader project called “Voyageur” will encompass the delivery, upgrading, marketing and infrastructure growth required to achieve Suncor Oil Sands production capability of 500,000 to 550,000 BPD by 2010 - 2012. The new facility will consist of primary upgrading that includes two sets of delayed coking units, a sulphur complex, a single hydrogen plant, hydrotreating units and associated infrastructure, utilities and offsite facilities.
Moody International has recently been awarded a contract with Suncor Energy Services Inc. and will be working directly with several Engineering and Procurement (EP) houses to provide the third-party inspection services for the entire Voyageur Upgrading Project.
